What is the REGEN-COV Treatment?

Village Emergency Centers are now offering the monoclonal antibody infusion or REGEN-COV treatment to coronavirus-positive patients who meet the criteria. This treatment consists of administering a cocktail of monoclonal antibodies casirivimab and imdevimab. What Are Monoclonal Antibodies?

  • Antibodies are naturally produced in our bodies to fight infection.
  • Monoclonal antibodies, or mAbs, are laboratory-made proteins that mimic the immune system’s ability to fight off harmful pathogens at cause COVID-19. 
  • Monoclonal antibodies have been studied by the FDA for the treatment of health conditions like cancers and autoimmune diseases.
  • The FDA is currently studying mAbs to treat COVID-19.


Antibody Cocktail Authorized Use

The REGEN-COV antibody cocktail is authorized for the treatment of patients with mild to moderate coronavirus symptoms. Patients must be at least 12 years of age or older and weigh at least 88lbs. They must also have positive results of direct SARS-CoV-2 viral testing, and be at high risk for hospitalization or death. This COVID-19 ER treatment will be administered by a doctor and coverage will vary based on your insurance policy.


Who Can Receive the REGEN-COV Treatments?

This treatment CANNOT be used for those who:

  • Are hospitalized due to COVID-19
  • Require oxygen therapy due to COVID-19
  • Require an increase in baseline oxygen flow rate due to COVID-19 in those on chronic oxygen therapy due to underlying causes unrelated to COVID-19

This treatment should not be used as a substitute for the COVID-19 vaccination, nor should it be used for the prevention of COVID-19. REGEN-COV has not been approved but has been authorized for emergency use by FDA.

Patients who receive this treatment may experience symptoms such as:

  • Fever
  • Difficult in breathing
  • Rapid or slow heart rate
  • Tiredness, weakness, or confusion

You can always come into our ERs and we will gladly assist you, but due to circumstances out of our control in the emergency room, your appointment may be rescheduled to a different time and place without adequate notice.
